AMERICAN FORK, Utah — Alpine School District has announced that Samantha Corey, a student who passed away from cancer before graduation, will be recognized at the graduation ceremony for American Fork High School. Corey’s family had previously expressed concern over a district policy that may have prevented her from being recognized at graduation. 

“Samantha was loved by her classmates, teachers, and school staff. She will be recognized at the school’s graduation ceremony Wednesday, May 22 at the Marriott Center in Provo,” Alpine School District said in a statement.

A petition was formed on Corey’s behalf through change.org, garnering nearly 2,500 signatures as of the time of writing.
