De Pere rallies to support young wrestler battling cancer [Video]

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – As an avid wrestler, 7-year-old Owen Obey knows a thing or two about battling for every inch.

“That’s been a huge passion for him and something that he really holds true to his heart,” said his aunt Heather Heyrman.

For the last ten months, Owen is fighting a new battle. Doctors found a tumor in his leg last summer just before the 4th of July holiday. He has osteosarcoma which is a rare form of bone cancer.

“I think soul crushing is the best way to describe it,” said Heyrman what it was like to first hear that news that her nephew has cancer. “I don’t think there’s any words to describe what that feeling is like, your heart sinks and you’re speechless.”

Owen battled through months of chemotherapy only to receive some more bad news towards the end of his prescribed treatments.
