Couple of 33 years marries in hospital after terminal cancer diagnosis [Video]

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT/Gray News) – For one South Carolina couple, their race to the altar has been three decades in the making.

Nancy Nelson says she and her longtime love, Robert Major, never considered marriage up until five days ago when Major’s cancer diagnosis took a turn for the worse, WRDW reports.

Nelson says one look was all it took 33 years ago.

“It was love at first sight definitely – for me. I can’t speak to him, but he never ran off,” she said.

But like many love stories, life got in the way for Nelson and Major.

“We ended up separated for 20-plus years by that great distance. We did talk to each other a lot. I visited him. He visited me. So, we kept the relationship going but on a way different level. But the love was always there,” Nelson said.
