Contract battle between Trinity Health and UnitedHealthcare leaves patients in the middle [Video]

(WFSB) – A battle between area hospitals and a health insurance company has patients reaching out to the I-Team for answers. As of July 1st, Trinity Health ended its contract with UnitedHealthcare.

Trinity Health includes Saint Francis Hospital, Mount Sinai rehabilitation Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Johnson Memorial Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. Patients with UnitedHealthcare may now be paying significantly more to get treatment at any of those locations.

Beverly Simonet has had to cancel her bi-weekly physical therapy appointments because the doctor is now considered out-of-network.

“No I can’t go, it’s not covered,” said Simonet. “Until this gets remedied, I can’t go unless I keep paying for all this stuff.”

Simonet’s cardiologist is also now out-of-network, and the medications he prescribed are also more expensive.

“It’s going to cost me $547 a month unless I can find something else,” said Simonet.
