Comedian Rhod Gilbert has admitted that having cancer was a “positive thing,” but shares that he “doesn’t want it back.” The Welsh comedian was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his head and neck in June 2022.

Speaking to The Times, the 55-year-old detailed his experience of battling the illness and how he lost two-and-a-half stone in a year during his treatment.

After his diagnosis, Rhod underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy and initial surgery, which he has documented in a Channel 4 show, A Pain in the Neck.

He said to the Times: “But in the end I thought I’d say, ‘I’m not sorry that I got cancer.’ I feel guilty saying this because of what my wife has been though — we just lost her dad to cancer as well, so it’s been a living hell for her.
