Coffee recalled nationwide due to risk of fatal food poisoning: Heres what you should know [Video]

Snapchill, LLC. of Green Bay, Wisconsin, is voluntarily recalling nearly 300 types of its canned coffee products because they could lead to the growth and production of a deadly toxin – botulinum toxin.

Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, difficulty speaking and swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation can also be common symptoms.

The symptoms can begin from six hours to two weeks after eating food containing botulinum toxin. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The products were distributed nationwide through various coffee roasters and retail locations, as well as through direct online purchases from Snapchill.

The issue was discovered when the FDA notified Snapchill that the low-acid canned foods process for manufacturing the recalled products was not filed with FDA, as is required by regulation.
