Chicago-area lemonade stand helps to fight cancer in kids [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After her daughter won a two-year battle with cancer, a Chicago-area mom has devoted her efforts to raising funds for other families across the country.

“It’s this feeling of, ‘I absolutely had to do something,’” said Danielle Moss. “There was no option for me.”

Moss said raising money for pediatric cancer research was the only thing she felt she could do when her daughter, Margot, was diagnosed with leukemia when she was only 22 months old.

She started fundraising for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a nonprofit that encourages families to host lemonade stands to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

“My hope is, for the people who aren’t able to have a stand, that they could buy a virtual cup from our stand, which goes all month,” said Moss. “If 500 people donate $5, that’s a ton of money for these kids.”
