Cancer patient Gary Helm left in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital corridor for hours [Video]

A Perth man with stage four cancer is outraged after spending four hours in a hospital corridor while waiting for a bed.

Gary Helm was left against a corridor wall and next to a toilet for hours at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital last week.

Helm, 65, told 7NEWS it made him feel terrible and that people were staring at him.

The hospital says that with no beds available it was the only option.

“It was also a long weekend. Staff take leave on long weekends. That makes discharge more challenging,” WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said.

Helm claims it is not the first time he has been put through this indignity. In 2021, he was also left in a corridor.

“Not one thing has changed” in that time, he said.
