Camp Takumta celebrates their 40th year anniversary of helping kids with cancer [Video]

For 40 years Camp Takumta has provided once in a lifetime opportunities for kids with cancer. Activities like ziplining and camping help take their minds off their serious and sometimes terminal conditions. “Camp takumta started because children back in 1984 who were undergoing cancer treatment were not always allowed to go to more traditional camps in the area because of their treatment regimen,” said Dennis DePaul, the executive director. Paige Davis a volunteer and Broadway star shared his sentiment. “It’s really special when if a child is always the odd person out right, if they’re always different than their peers and everything is always about the cancer, if you put them in the scenario where the playing field has been leveled, suddenly they get to feel special just for who they are as a person,” she said.
