Breast Cancer Treatment | Breast Cancer Research

Breast carcinoma, or breast cancer, is a type of cancer that forms in the cells of the breast. It can occur in both men and women, although it is far more common in women.

There are several types of breast carcinoma, with the most common being ductal carcinoma, which starts in the cells lining the milk ducts. Lobular carcinoma starts in the lobules, the glands that produce milk. Other less common types include inflammatory breast cancer, triple-negative breast cancer, and HER2-positive breast cancer.

Symptoms of breast cancer can include a lump in the breast, changes in breast size or shape, dimpling or puckering of the skin, a nipple that turns inward, redness or scaling of the breast skin or nipple, and discharge from the nipple, other than breast milk.

Treatment for breast cancer depends on the type and stage of the cancer, as well as other factors such as the patient’s overall health and preferences. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of these.

Early detection through screening mammograms can greatly improve the chances of successful treatment. Regular breast self-exams and clinical breast exams by a healthcare professional are also important for early detection.
