Bay Veterans Foundation teaching guitar to vets | Local [Video]

BAY CITY, Mich. (WJRT) – A new program in Bay County is teaching local veterans how to play guitar in order to work through PTSD and other issues…and to feel more connected.

Guitars4Vets is for veterans who have suffered specific traumatic brain injuries.

A second program called Guiters2Vets allows any veteran to also take part.

The goal is to help veterans learn a new skill while also using music as a way to work through anxiety, depression and PTSD.

A study of the program showed a 21% improvement in PTSD symptoms and a 27% decrease in related depression symptoms.

ABC12 caught up with a veteran taking the class. He said it gives him something to look forward to on days that would normally be spent alone at home.
