Baton Rouge doctor joins other researchers to study possible causes of Long COVID [Video]

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A researcher from Pennington Biomedical Research Center will be a part of an award-winning study on Long COVID.

Pennington’s Executive Director Dr. John Kirwan will be a co-principal investigator on Pathobiology in Recover of Metabolic and Immune Systems’ (PROMIS) study on Long COVID. The National Institute of Health has given the study’s researchers over $802,000.

Long COVID is used to describe symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath and trouble sleeping. Long COVID occurs after the initial diagnosis of COVID-19 and happens more often in people who have severe symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
