Aussies battling debilitating headaches can no longer access a key medication that alleviates symptoms [Video]

Sufferers of a blinding type of headache say pharmaceutical companies are putting profits before pain relief.

Joshua Lee Spencer is one of thousands of people affected by debilitated headaches.

“You really want to die… because the pain is so bad,” Lee Spencer said.

Spencer has presented to Armadale Hospital in Perth five times in the last two weeks and suffers from what is called cluster headaches.

“(It’s) Like someone with a hot burning knife going through my eye and then reaching all the way back and stabbing,” he said.

For many people suffering from this condition, there is no warning, and now the most common drug to treat the crippling condition has been pulled from pharmacy shelves.

Lee Spencer said Sumatriptan nasal spray works best for him, but it has been discontinued due to commercial viability.
