As drug costs soar, seniors say they’re being priced out of basic pain management [Video]

Christina Boyd is proud that she and her husband Sam, 65, keep active and try their best to stay healthy by eating well and taking as few medications as possible. 

The Boyds live on a fixed income, collecting disability and Canada Pension Plan benefits after retiring. The two take part in fitness classes together, but Sam has multiple sclerosis and Christina has rheumatoid arthritis. 

“We have this issue that the medications we need are very expensive, much more expensive than they used to be,” Christina Boyd said in the condo the couple shares in north London. 

Like many seniors, the Boyds have noticed the price of over-the-counter medication they rely on skyrocket, putting a strain on their pocketbooks and forcing them to sometimes make tough choices about pain management and other expenses.
