A Democratic-led bill to protect IVF services across the country failed on the Senate floor on Thursday. This comes after the state Supreme Court decided embryos should be considered children, and those who destroy them could be charged with wrongful death.Some said the results of the vote were expected as some Republicans felt the bill was an unnecessary overreach and a political show vote ahead of this year’s presidential election.The vote on the Senate floor came down to 48 in favor and 47 opposed falling short of the 60 votes needed to advance the bill.The bill would’ve made it a federal law for IVF treatments to be a right for patients and doctors who would provide treatment, and it would’ve canceled out any state laws that eliminated it.
